The care of people with young onset dementia within mental health wards

People with young onset dementia are disproportionately represented within mental health inpatient services, yet mental health wards remain one of the least understood areas of dementia care. Our webinar on Wednesday 21st October 2026 at 12.30-1.30pm will provide a unique insight into who is admitted, what led up to their admission, the aims of admission, how long people typically stay, and what happens when they leave.

Drawing on findings from the FIND ME study, it will introduce practical co-produced resources designed to support people and family members when admission is being considered.

The session will also feature first-hand accounts from a family carer and a member of ward staff, offering honest reflections on the challenges, opportunities and realities of care within these settings for people with young onset dementia.
