Our webinar on Wednesday 17th June 2026 at 12.30-1.30pm will share emerging evidence from three research projects currently underway by the Working With Dementia Network Plus Research Team exploring dementia and employment. Presentations will cover priorities for improving work experiences, the economic impacts of young onset dementia, and how employment law is applied in practice. 

Dr Rachel Allen, Impact Officer at the University of the West of Scotland, will share her research that explored how to improve work-related experiences for people living with dementia and family carers. The research identified three priority areas: work and wellbeing, inclusive workplaces, and economic costs and benefits. 

The second presentation, delivered by Dr Kiera Kenny, Research Associate at Lancaster University, will share findings from a programme of rapid evidence reviews led by Professor Carol Holland. These reviews examine key issues including workplace support for employees living with dementia, economic impacts of young-onset dementia, labour market barriers and enablers for informal carers, and brain health at work. 

The third project, presented by Dr Connor McDonald, Research Fellow at Northumbria University, analyses employment tribunal judgments relating to dementia in the UK, Canada and Australia. Led by Dr Lyndsey Bengtsson, this research explores how employment legislation is applied in practice and highlights implications for employers, employees and potential legal reform. 

Members of the Working With Dementia Advisory Panel will share their lived experiences of working following a diagnosis of young onset dementia.
