Beyond age-appropriate – tailoring services for the individual with young onset dementia and their family
At our webinar on Wednesday 25th February 2026, Maud Ritzen, PhD student at Alzheimer Centre Limburg, Maastricht University, Netherlands, will present how the needs of people with young onset dementia vary depending on dementia subtype, stage and living situation. She will explain how understanding this context shapes the types of support that is most needed and how these insights can be utilised in practice.
Dr Suzanne Heron, Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing, University of the West of Scotland, will then narrow the focus from a broad understanding of needs to actionable solutions for young onset dementia by exploring the concept of ‘age-appropriate support’ and what will enhance age and life stage appropriate care in the future.
Leanne Elliot, daughter and primary caregiver, will discuss her experience of accessing age and life-stage appropriate care for her mother who is living with young onset dementia.
