Reinhard Guss – Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Neuropsychologist, Faculty of Psychology of Older People (FPOP/BPS) Dementia Workstream Lead

Reinhard is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Neuropsychologist, working in NHS and private practice in Sussex and Kent. He studied Clinical Psychology and Gerontology at Heidelberg University in the 1980s and subsequently worked in Salford, completing the BPS Statement of Equivalence.

He has long held a particular interest in younger people with a dementia, working with memory assessment services in both neuropsychological assessment and in post-diagnostic interventions and therapy. Reinhard was Clinical Lead for Young Onset Dementia, held an Alzheimer’s Society Service development Grant to explore psychological services for younger people with dementia and developed a horticulture project for younger people with dementia in Medway.

Over the past years he has particularly valued working with people with a diagnosis of dementia in awareness raising and co-production, and collaborating with the Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Programme (DEEP). He was the dementia workstream lead for the Faculty of the Psychology of Older People’s National Committee for eight years and was Chair of the Faculty.

Reinhard is involved in lecturing and training, and has published professional guidance on psychology and young onset dementia, and the needs of younger people with dementia. Outside psychological work, Reinhard is an avid gardener, photographer and user of social media​.

Reinhard is a member of the Young Dementia Network Research workstream.
